Transitional Housing
The Kalamazoo Housing Advocates Family Transitional Program is a new initiative designed to address the critical and rising need for safe, stable, and supportive housing for vulnerable families with young children in Kalamazoo County.
This program will utilize a 10-unit facility in the Edison neighborhood to serve 40 – 45 individuals at any given time, providing families with a structured, time-limited pathway toward long-term housing stability and self-sufficiency.
The lease will be operated by Lukeman Group, and operations will be managed by Kalamazoo Housing Advocates. This program moves beyond simple shelter, offering intensive on-site management and coordinated supportive services.
Our core objective is to break the cycle of housing instability by providing a physical home along with the necessary resources (including education, job readiness, and other support through collaboration with our partners) to ensure participating families successfully transition into permanent, affordable housing within a goal-oriented timeframe.
The program duration is typically 3 to 6 months extendable as needed, structured around a Personal Housing Stability Plan. The program concludes when the family secures a lease on permanent, independent housing. Kalamazoo Housing Advocates will provide continued support as needed to ensure a stable transition.
Serenity House
For a long time we knew that transitional housing for families has been a critical, unmet need in Kalamazoo, and it was one of our dreams to build a high quality home for our families moving out of homelessness.
When the opportunity presented itself – we jumped at it!
