At Kalamazoo Housing Advocates (KHA) we are breaking the cycle of generational homelessness in Kalamazoo County by helping unhoused and unstably housed individuals and families to secure and retain their homes in the long term.
- Enable clients to secure safe and affordable housing.
- Prevent evictions by mediating conflicts and resolving disputes with landlords.
- Partner with local nonprofits, agencies, and landlords to prevent evictions, promote positive tenant-landlord relationships and reduce the risk of homelessness.
- Coach tenants on best practices for successful renting.
- Educate landlords about the challenges faced by the unhoused to reduce stigma and encourage renting to those with a history of homelessness.
- Raise community awareness to foster understanding and support.
- Advocate for our clients with landlords, agencies and other resources.
- Engage policymakers to promote fair housing policies, and the recognition of housing as a fundamental human right.
- Acknowledge landlords as pivotal in ending homelessness and work collaboratively to foster mutual understanding.
