Demystifying Homelessness

Our staff’s work for the past 20+ years in the housing field as well as feedback from partner agencies, housing providers/ landlords, donors, and businesses revealed to us widespread myths and prejudices surrounding homelessness and about the people experiencing homelessness.

These myths and misconceptions create additional hurdles in securing stable housing.

To address these concerns, we launched the “Demystifying Homelessness” workshop series (in collaboration with the Institute of Public Scholarship and Prince of Peace Church), to challenge common myths and harmful narratives about homelessness, many of which are rooted in systemic racism and classism.

These sessions help foster empathy, combat stigma, and dismantle common myths that often criminalize or pathologize the unhoused.
