Why it matters
Wanda’s Story
Wanda (name changed to protect privacy) arrived at the Gospel Mission with a housing voucher and almost nothing else. Over 55, disabled, no income – but determined.
KHA’s Jacob McCann walked every step of the road with her: paying her phone bill so landlords could reach her, meeting her at Ministry with Community after her foot was amputated, driving her to her lease signing while she was still on a walker.
Her rent is $6 a month. KHA paid six months in advance. Our cherished community partner – Mulders Movers – delivered a full apartment of donated furniture on moving day, because Wanda had nothing but her clothes.
Wanda is still in process – waiting on Social Security disability, working through utilities with KHA’s help. Her story isn’t wrapped up neatly, because real life rarely is. But she has a door. She has a key. And she has people who aren’t done showing up for her.
That’s what your gift makes possible — not just a moment of relief, but the long, steady work of making sure someone doesn’t fall through the cracks.

Leave a gift in your will
A bequest to Kalamazoo Housing Advocates is one of the most powerful things you can do for the future of housing in our community. It requires no action today — simply a conversation with your attorney and a few lines added to your will or trust. You have two options for how to structure it:
Option 1 — Name KHA directly
“I give [dollar amount / percentage / remainder of estate] to Kalamazoo Housing Advocates, a nonprofit organization located at 320 N Rose St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007, EIN 88-3267109, to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
Option 2 — Name the KZCF fund
“I give [dollar amount / percentage / remainder of estate] to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, for the benefit of the Kalamazoo Housing Advocates Fund, to be used to support the charitable purposes of Kalamazoo Housing Advocates.”
Not sure which option is right for you? Contact Maliha — she can connect you with KZCF’s gift planning team if helpful, and we’re happy to speak with your attorney or financial advisor directly.
Let’s talk
Whether you’re ready to make a gift or just exploring options, Maliha would love to hear from you. There’s no obligation — just a conversation about what feels right for you and your values.
